Not Goodbye, But Maybe Later...

I was just reminded a few moments ago when I went to my website (pathetically, I haven't looked at my own website it in a while) that I have been neglecting my blog worse than ever before. Then I thought, I really don't have the time and I don't need the pressure of another item on my "to do" list. I'd rather take any extra time I have to edit photos, refine my photography skills or simply update my webpage (it's feeling really neglected these days too). With that, I'm officially putting this blog on hold indefinitely... Awesome - that's a relief! But I can't go away without adding just a few more photos. ;) Enjoy!

I spent the end of December in Panama. During my time there, I had the opportunity to travel all over the country and experience many AMAZING places and friendly people! Meet the Coopers - Happy Thanksgiving!

As I write this, I have cornbread muffins baking in the oven and a nagging irritation reminding me I'm behind on finishing the Sweet Potato Casserole and Pineapple Souffle I need to bring to my Aunts house very shortly. My to do list is getting longer and longer as the Holiday Season has officially begun!

I know today was "designed" to give Thanks and I often forget that as I'm usually concerned with travel logistics or groceries to pick up and dishes to prepare or buying an outfit my daughter will wear without negotiation and deciding whether Black Friday is the day I will do most of my Christmas shopping or deal with the exchange from Fall Decorations to Christmas Decorations throughout the house. Which reminds me, if I don't get my lawn cut within the next day or two - my dog may get lost out there! With that, today, I want to make sure I take the time to thank my immediate family and share our most recent family time.

So here they are... meet the Coopers!

We celebrated Thanksgiving early this year and met at Lake Travis - Austin, Texas. I had a wedding to photograph in Austin this particular weekend so it worked out that everyone was available and it was a "central" location for us all to meet! My Father flew from his home in Mexico, my brother (Jason) and his girlfriend came from Los Angeles and my sister (Christine) and youngest brother (Michael) drove out from Houston with their spouses and children. Having us ALL together for a Thanksgiving celebration has not happened since 1992 so it was AWESOME having everyone together again! I believe it was our BEST THANKSGIVING EVER!

My daughter and I arrived at about the same time as my Father's flight so when we proceeded to get the rental car my Dad said we could pick any car - IMMEDIATELY I eyeballed a HUGE Ford F150 pick up Truck and said "Does it have to be a car?" I was so excited to be back in the state I grew up in and very quickly felt like a kid in a candy store! A Pick-up truck would be PERFECT for our time in Austin - yee haw!

When we arrived at the house we rented for the weekend I was thrilled to see that the layout, location and amenities were better than expected! We had a pool and hot tub, we were right on the Lake, the outside had a flat screen TV where my brother-in-law hooked up Guitar Hero, a covered patio we could hang out under for hours and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows and making s'mores!

This was a little gift from my Dad when he arrived! I've been collecting photos of the number "360" and when I was visiting him in Mexico this summer the ONLY place the number "360" was found was when my friends were pumping gas and the total was 360 pesos... Thanks for thinking of me Dad - you're the BEST!

The first night we arrived and still unpacking - Mark (my brother-in-law) took some time well deserved time to play his acoustic guitar before the battle of "I'm next" with Guitar Hero began!

Uncle Mark set up this tent for the kids to camp out in - it never happened! Maybe next time?

Boudoir Photography Album - Wedding Gift for the Groom

I'm working diligently on editing photos at the same time lots of new stuff with my new Blogsite is being developed and hopefully launched before Thanksgiving! However, my main focus is getting photos thru my "digital darkroom" and back to those who need to order Holiday Cards and gift portraits/items first!

As for my last post regarding the discarded mud run shoes, I was able to find and make contact with the National Geographic, Daily Dozen Contributing photographer (Atilio Orellana) from Argentina who of course supports this endeavor. He speaks/writes beginner English and I speak/write beginner Spanish which made it a slightly entertaining challenge trying to communicate with our basic knowledge of each others language! However, thanks to GOOGLE TRANSLATE, we were able to convey our messages. I want to thank those who wrote (and called) to share different leads with organizations who have similar ideas and programs in place. Over the next week or two I'll contact the organizations and see what can be done to get shoes from my area to those in need! Thanks again to everyone who shared, I'll keep you posted!

Ok, finally for the really good stuff... Corie & Tony - here are more of my favorites from their Engagement Shoot here in Charlotte! I'm so excited about their wedding, this is going to be lots of fun with this couple, their family and friends!

GIVE - What Can I Do? Any ideas out there?

This past summer I attended two separate "Mud Run" events in South Carolina(competitors run between 5-8 miles through mud and obstacles in a military style challenge). At the end of the first run I noticed PILES of shoes which had been worn in the race and then left behind by runners. I was curious what the fate of those shoes would be so I spoke to one of the organizers. I was told, no one would want the shoes because they are "too dirty". I'm not sure why it bothered me so much however, it did. I knew that somewhere someone would appreciate these shoes not only for comfort and protection but because they are needed and still very much functioning. I continued thru my day although randomly those discarded shoes came to mind for several days following the event. I know, it's weird, why did I care?

A few weeks later I attended a larger Mud Run event and again at the end, I noticed at least twice as many shoes discarded around the area where competitors washed up after the race. This time, I took a photo (see below) of a group of the shoes among many, many more. I simply felt compelled to capture this shoe collection and later when reviewing my photos from the day, I was happy I had because I was still thinking about the shoes which were left behind...

Today (almost two months after attending the second mud run) as I surfed online looking for inspiration thru other photographers work from around the world, I happened to come across the image below displayed on National Geographic's Daily Dozen. "Daily Dozen" images are submitted from around the world and this particular photograph was captured by Photographer Atilio Orellana and it made a connection for me.
"This photo was shot in Anatuya, Santiago del Estero, Argentina on February 20, 2009. Here, 'Tiger', is shown with the same sneakers he uses every time he goes to El Tabique, the brick factory of his father."

Those shoes left behind in South Carolina and thousands more across the country, became unwanted products by U.S. consumer standards, destined to prematurely end up in landfills simply because they are discolored from mud and surface dirt. Those shoes should be utilized, appreciated and potentially aide in making someone's day more productive and less painful. Why not recycle and redistribute to those in less fortunate, under developed parts of the world? How can I (we?) make this happen? Even starting with one city or village somewhere?

I get it, this isn't ending World Hunger, War or finding a cure for Cancer however, this seems like the obvious answer to an apparently simple unmet need. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this come to fruition?

I'll continue to think about it and search for answers. If you have any ideas or thoughts to share, please leave a comment or send an email!

Boys, Boys & More Boys! The "B" Family Photo Sneak Peek - Photography by Jennel

Usually I like to meet with clients at different locations throughout their town however, when Steve asked to meet at his home because he said he had a view of the Ohio River in his backyard I thought it would be fun to check out. When I arrived, slowly driving up the long drive a HUGE dark dog came running at my car. I pulled up to the house and called Steve to ask if it was safe to get out of my car. I felt so silly when I realized how sweet Koda (their dog) really is - see the photos below. Anyway, not only did this family have a view of the river, they had several acres of space for this group of little men to conquer! This was an extremely high energy group which kept me constantly moving and trying to out think their next move... Thanks for a great time and Will, you're too cute - you still have me crackin'up!

Another Sneak Peek from Ohio, the "M" Family - 360 Studios Photography by Jennel

I'm rushing to catch up on editing and at least give those I met with over the weekend in Ohio an idea of how our photo sessions are looking. I'm also getting closer to a new blog and website design which I'm hoping will go live before Thanksgiving. In the meantime, I'm looking to book a few more Family Sessions for Holiday cards. The deadline for photo sessions with Holiday Card printing is November 19.

Today I'm posting a few images from the "M" family, we met in the Oregon District in Dayton, Ohio. It was another day of this trip with challenging weather but again, we made it work. This family was full of energy and extremely positive although the weather certainly wasn't ideal. I want to thank this family for having fun with me and being silly - I really enjoyed working with the three of you! Kelly, I loved the hat and "Doug/Steve" sorry about that, I think my brain froze temporarily but it did give us a couple laughs! :)

The weather was definitely not the best I've seen in Cincinnati however, we were able to get some shots in before the rain came and sun quickly set on us. Charlotte Skyline by 360 Studios Photography - Charlotte Photographer

I just completed two days of a Marketing Seminar with guest speakers (many of my photography idols!) from all over the country. I soaked up A LOT of information over the past two days and I'm looking forward to utilizing these new "tricks of the trade" for 360 Studios! But before I dive into that, I need to share some eye candy!!!

Several weeks ago, I went out with a friend in hopes of finding the perfect location to photograph Charlotte's Skyline (thanks Christa, for letting me borrow Claus for a couple hours, I might still be lost if it weren't for him and his extensive knowledge of Charlotte!) Ultimately, we found a great location but we were unable to access it (still a work in progress) however, from the location we settled on I was able to get this image! It's certainly a smaller perspective of the city than what is usually seen but I really like the colors and it was fun playing with the light! Enjoy!

Summer Favorites with Brittany and Lake Norman - Charlotte Photographer

A few short weeks ago I posted photos from one of my favorite weddings over the summer with the intention of adding more summer favorites. I ended up side tracked and got away from the idea but I'm back to my original plan! So here are a few more: This session was with Brittany. We had a great time shooting in an amazing house on Lake Norman and then jumping on the boat and heading out to an island where we were the only ones out there with the perfect sunset & location. Yesterday I wrote about a new location I recently found for photo sessions and the excitement it generated by shooting in a new environment. With that, I thought I should enlist the help of those who've been in the Charlotte area longer than I have to help me find additional FUN, CREATIVE and simply DIFFERENT locations! So this is what I've come up with: A FREE PHOTO SHOOT & DIGITAL IMAGES this month to the most creative, different, fun, or beautiful location a reader shares!

If you know of a great place you think might be good for photos in the greater Charlotte area - SOMETHING DIFFERENT (urban or not, indoor, outdoor, junk yard, vacant bldg., gardens, etc.) or a place where special access is needed (and you have permission to be there).

The BIG Lolliop & FREE PHOTO SHOOT Contest - Charlotte Children's Photography

I've had an ongoing mission to find new and creative places to photograph couples, families & children (usually urban scenes). However, when I WASN'T looking for a new place to photograph but instead, a new place to run (without concrete), I found this beautiful open space connecting two wooded trails. It was awesome running in the woods and being surprised with a wide open and completely unexpected lush landscape. I was thrilled to experiment with this new location - my new found "slice of paradise" and overall, I think they turned out really well! With the excitement this new location generated for me, I've decided to offer a FREE PHOTO SHOOT and Prints to the most creative location a reader shares!

Christie & Matt Wedding Rehearsal - Charlotte Wedding Photographer

Last Friday I had the pleasure of working with the amazing event planners of Rogers and Gala Creative Partners Sikky and Angela as well as their team of associates were on top of everything so Matt & Christie's families were able to enjoy and celebrate the entire evening without any worries! The decorations, food & drink selections, location Bentley's On 27 and live music were PERFECT! Additionally, I'm not sure if I've ever been as moved at a rehearsal dinner as I was this particular evening. Matt & Christie had several family and friends in attendance supporting their unity and sharing stories of their time together. The best story was Matt sharing his first experience in church with Christie and presenting a small "souvenir" he had kept from that date - tears were everywhere (which made it difficult to see thru the lens)! :)

Summers End...

As the end of my favorite season (summer) quickly approaches I want to review my favorite weddings and photography moments over the past few months. Today I'm sharing from a wedding in June which took place in Charleston, South Carolina. It was my favorite for many reasons, here are just a few: the location & weather gave us some incredible lighting and scenery to work with, the extremely agreeable and willing to try anything bride and groom as well as working with my friend and photography mentor/genius - Carmen Nauseef, owner of Blink of an Eye Photography - Dayton, Ohio. I had a great time the entire day and the results were AMAZING!

I hope you love them as much as I do...

Did I photograph Crickets or Grasshoppers with my Macro Lens?

I was just having a discussion with my Father regarding his potential purchase of a Canon 70-200mm lens and when I asked what he wanted to photograph with that particular lens, he said he was interested in the humming birds which often visit his home in Ajijic, Mexico. I think it's a great idea however, my opinion is that a Macro lens may be something more useful to him because of his love of detail in an image. He will certainly need more equipment (and perfect timing) to get a great shot of a humming bird in flight however, I think this is a way to get started.

So, I'm attaching a few photos I took a few weeks ago from my back deck, using my Canon Macro lens. I hope you like them Dad! (Double click on the Image to see more detail)

Heads Up - All Wedding Planners! Here are your "Wedding Guests Secret Gripes"

As a wedding photographer it's obvious I've been to MANY weddings however, I have also attended these social events simply as a guest, a few times as bridesmaid and I 'll never forget: long, long ago even as a bride... This evening as I read the following article from The Knot, I thought it would be great to post for those couples planning their upcoming nuptials. Personally, it made me cringe to read some of it because I was reminded of the times I had fallen "victim" to the various situations and looking back (*blushing*) I realize I was guilty of subjecting some of my guests to one or possibly two of these predicaments. So, please enjoy this article, don't make the mistakes I did and know that if I'm ever planning another wedding, I can promise my future guests, I will NOT let you down this time! :)

Wedding Guests' Secret Gripes

You've been to a few weddings yourself, so you know there are just some things that can rub you the wrong way. Here are a few helpful reminders about what guests can't stand.

You may think your wedding is all about you and your groom (or maybe just you) but, hello, you're hosting a party! If your guests are miserable, your wedding will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. So we talked to dozens of frequent wedding guests — from always-a-bridesmaids to recent brides to guys in their 20s and 30s — to find out what they hated about the events they've attended. We've kept the guests' names secret just in case they're coming to your wedding!

Your Timing Stinks
Huge time gaps between the ceremony and the reception — the ones where the ceremony starts at noon, but the party isn't until 7 p.m. — are annoying because you're often leaving us in the middle of nowhere with absolutely nothing to do. We don't want to kill time at a restaurant because we're hoping you'll feed us well at your reception. And there's only so much lingering we can do at a coffee shop or a bookstore ... in our dressy clothes! We'd much rather head straight to the party after the "I dos."

You Picked a Bad Day
We've had weddings on every holiday, from Mother's Day to Super Bowl Sunday (yes, that counts as a holiday). You must realize that we'd rather be with our moms or watching the game instead of going to your wedding on those days. And please don't ruin our holiday weekends. We get it; you can save a bundle if you get hitched on the Sunday before Memorial Day, but maybe we'd like to take our vacations then. If nothing else, please don't get married on some random Tuesday night. That means we have to take off two days from work just to go! Let us use our vacation days for vacations.

You're Boring Us
The ceremony may be the most important part of the day to you, but the reception is what we're really looking forward to. When it takes forever to get dinner served, each speech is 25 minutes long, and you play a string of songs that are all inside jokes with the same group of friends, there isn't much time for getting our groove on. Uh, and if the band's so bad that no one's dancing — including you and your groom — we just think, Why are we even here? Showing us a really good time is the least that you can do to thank us for giving up our free day, traveling, and getting you an expensive gift.

The Food Isn't Great
Why would you bother spending thousands on your flowers if your food is going to taste terrible? We want a delicious meal way more than we want pretty centerpieces. You don't know this, but we actually think of that $200 gift as a contribution to a great meal. If it's not as good as something we'd have at a restaurant, we're going to be disappointed. Even if the food is tasty, don't make us go hungry. We don't need an eight-course meal, but we don't want to have to push through other guests just to get to the tiny hors d'oeuvres you're calling dinner.

You Make Us Pay?!
Treat your guests like guests; don't make us bring our wallets whenever we want a drink! When you have more than 300 guests and a cash bar, we wish that you would've just cut the list and paid for our drinks instead. How exactly are we supposed to feel when we paid for flights, a rental car, a hotel room, and a gift, and then you make us pay at the bar? So not cool.

You Sat Us Here
We want to have fun at your wedding, believe us, but it's pretty tricky when you seat us right in front of giant speakers. We won't be able to talk to anyone at our tables or enjoy our dinner if you're blowing out our eardrums. Before you book your venue, make sure there's enough space for tables without having to make us sit in the DJ's lap. And don't make us suffer in the heat. If you're having a summer wedding, do it somewhere with air conditioning!

Also, if you want to be outdoors, don't make us rough it: Walking around in the mud, swatting bugs, or using porta-potties is even less fun in formal attire. And please give us plenty of places to sit. Cocktail hours are great, but it's pretty tough to balance our plates, drinks, and purses while standing — in heels no less!

You Don't Invite a Plus-One
Nothing reminds us of our dating status like a wedding. No need to rub it in our faces with even more reminders. The garter and bouquet tosses are like saying, "Hey, look at them. They're single!" Could you blame us if we hide in the bathroom as soon as the DJ announces it? And, come on, even if they did honestly predict we'd be the next to marry, do we really want some cheesy guy slipping garters up our legs? Of course, we'd prefer to be invited with a date, but we get why you may not be able to give us that, especially if we'll know lots of other people there. But if everyone we know is making out with their significant other all night, we're going to be pissed that you couldn't include one extra person to make us feel a little more comfortable.

You Put Us to Work
We know we'll have to help out with some tasks when we agree to be in the bridal party, but it's insulting when you consider a task like manning the guest book table an honor. We'd rather just be a regular guest at the wedding than have some silly duty like that. At the very least, give us a heads up if you'll need our help. Don't spring flower girl babysitting duties on us minutes before the reception.

You Don't Say Thank You
It's frustrating when we fly all the way to your wedding and you don't take the time to thank us for making the trip. Even if we haven't come a long way, make an effort to thank us for coming anyway. We know it's hard to talk to every guest at the wedding, but that's why, at the very least, we better get a thank-you card from you when you get back from your honeymoon!

Below are a few of my favorite pictures of "couples" I took while in Europe. The bride and groom are from Dubrovnik, Croatia. They were married in the "Old City" it was a beautiful place for a wedding! Amazing colors and perfect weather!

This faceless mystery couple were at San Marco Square in Venice, Italy. They were so focused on each other they didn't notice I was snapping photos of them!

These cuties were celebrating Redentore in Venice. This couple was a lot of fun because he's a photographer too so we were playing with flashlights, I think these turned out cool!

Whenever I've traveled to Los Angeles, the main reason is to visit my brother (Jason). Although, my trip out there last week was primarily to Photograph for SWOOP magazine, hanging out with Jason was a VERY close second. While I was there (actually Hermosa Beach), I took some photos of Jason and today we found out they will also be published in the next issue of SWOOP Magazine. Here are a few of my favorites from my shoot with my brother and a personal snapshot of he and I hanging out! BTW, to Dad and Jason - let's give kudos for the fact that "what happened in Paris stayed in Paris" and no repeat incidents in L.A. ... something to celebrate! I had a blast out there - Thanks Jason!

SWOOP Magazine Cover Shoot

This past weekend I had the pleasure of being on the beaches of Los Angeles to photograph volleyball player, Morgan Beck for the cover of SWOOP Magazine. Our photo shoot took place at the very hip Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach. We had the entire roof top pool and deck to ourselves ("ourselves" meaning everyone involved in the shoot)! The overall production went extremely smooth, everyone was really laid back, fun and we had a great time with perfect weather and lighting! BTW, I have to give special props to the girl who held the reflector - you rock!!! ;)

SWOOPS Motto is "Work Hard, Play Often"... I like that, maybe that will be my new FB status?

I'm in Los Angeles right now photographing the cover of SWOOP magazine with Bettini's Bikini's for the cover look - VER... NICE! I was also invited to do some commercial work for an online fashion magazine. The pics won't post there until the issue is released next week but here's a sneak peek of the gorgeous accessories I had fun playing with... All from Hollywood's "BEIGE".

Wednesday night was the "Pink Party" hosted by The Velvet Nights at the EpiCenter's SUITE. It was jam packed and guests were having a blast with great music and celebrating Spring by wearing pink and enjoying "pink treats" all night! Mud Run Fun an 8K and 30 Military Style Obstacles

This past Saturday I participated in the Recon Fitness Mud Challenge at the Winthrop College Campus. I was on a team of four (3 guys and myself) of course I WAS the weakest link but the guys were extremely good at motivating me to "dig deep" and push thru. In the end, we placed 6 out of 69 overall so I was satisfied with that placement for now. Next time, I want an award! Anyway, after the race I was able to grab my camera and get a few shots for fun! Some were taken by friends and a few were taken by an official photographer of the race (credit below) Ver...nice!

In the picture above I'm still in the mood to smile for the camera because the race won't officially begin for another 9 seconds...

Wing Haven Gardens Bridal Shoot

Below are some of my favorite images from Friday's Bridal Shoot at Wing Haven Gardens here in Charlotte. I was able to work with Darren Casse of D&J Photography and Stylist Craig Ross for this shoot. It was a great opportunity to work with a stylist on a shoot because it gives a photographer more time to focus on the camera, lighting and several of aspects of shoot while the stylist can set poses and give some creative ideas of what looks good at specific location. I learned a little more about Charlotte and another of the many beautiful venues here in the city. The bride was gorgeous, she had a beautiful smile and overall fun to photograph! We had great weather and the setting was simply perfect! I used a few new (to me) actions with the colors, I think it turned out really nice -enjoy!

In light of being new to Charlotte, I've decided it's time for a new image and branding for 360 Studios Photography. With that, I've commissioned the amazing Brent Holloman to create and design a new logo.

At this point in the logo creating process, I'm torn between two very similar concepts and would love to get the opinion of friends, family, clients and even random blog watchers. Charlotte & The Velvet Nights

Last night I started working with Terrill Hinson from THE Velvet Nights. What a great experience covering fabulous venues at the Epicenter here in Charlotte! I was able to meet several really cool and interesting people as well as find my way around some of the hottest nightlife in my new town. It's seems most people I've met out here have relocated from somewhere else in the country and love Charlotte as much as I do! These are just a few pics from last night, I only used the 20mm lens last night and it worked well especially when it was crowded (SUITE was EXTRA TYTE!)

Next Friday, The Velvet nights will present APHRODISIAC an extremely HOT Swimwear & Designer Fashion Show at Whiskey River. I've heard they'll have magicians, Hula Dancers, Red Carpet entry for All, A Press Wall (fun pics) and overall a great time with rockin' music and dancing! I can't wait to meet more locals and capture photos of people enjoying the good times this city has to offer!!!

Just thought I'd share a link to a recent article regarding the NEW Canon Point and Shoot Cameras coming this spring. I hope it will help those looking to buy a new "pocket camera" Personally, I'm looking at Powershop D10 (Waterproof & Freezeproof) it will be great for being out on the lake this summer and then next season when I get back out on the mountains to snowboard! Both situations don't warrant me lugging my "big" camera. Enjoy!

Canon's First HD Video—Capable Point and Shoots

Canon goes all out by refreshing its camera line, including its first waterproof model and point-and-shoot cameras with HD video capabilities.

Canon on Tuesday updated its point-and-shoot PowerShot line by announcing ten new cameras. A few of the new models will be able to record high-definition video at 720p and 1080p, both a first for Canon in the United States. Another area Canon will dive into is the waterproof camera market. Though the company makes waterproof housing accessories for its cameras, Canon will be introducing its first waterproof camera (up to 13 feet) in early May.

Canon originally announced its first HD video–capable camera, the PowerShot SX1 IS, in September of 2008, but only sold it in Europe. Beginning in April, consumers can purchase the SX1 in the U.S., and it lists for $599.99. This 10-megapixel superzoom camera will offer a 20x optical zoom, use a wide-angle 28mm lens, and be capable of recording 1080p video at 30 frames per second (fps). The camera will also use a CMOS sensor as opposed to a CCD sensor. (CMOS sensors are usually found in high-end SLR cameras that produce much better images through lower amounts of noise and larger dynamic range.)

Canon also announced a less-expensive superzoom, priced at $349.99. The PowerShot SX200 IS is similarly shaped to the PowerShot G10, but according to Canon, will be thinner. The 12-megapixel SX200 IS will offer a 12x optical zoom, HD video capture of 720p at 30 fps, and a 3-inch LCD screen.

The PowerShot Elph line, described as having "performance and style," will receive four new additions. The most feature-packed camera will be the 12-megapixel SD970 IS, which will record HD video (720p at 30 fps), offer an HDMI-out, a 5x optical zoom, a sharper 3-inch LCD containing 460k pixels (up from previous generations' 230k pixels), and will list for $379.99 in mid-April.

For $50 less ($329.99) Canon will offer the SD960 IS in early March. It records 720p video at 30 fps, offers 12-megapixel captures, a 4x optical zoom, and a 2.8-inch LCD with 230k pixels—but the screen will have a 16:9 aspect ratio as opposed to other Elph screens with 4:3 aspect ratios.

The SD780 ($279.99), which also does 720p video at 30fps, boasts 10-megapixel captures, a 4x optical zoom, and a 2.5-inch LCD screen.

The least-expensive Elph, the SD1200, will list for $229.99 in mid-March and will only offer standard-fefinition video recording. It will feature 10-megapixel captures, a 3x optical zoom, and don a 2.5-inch LCD screen. The SD1200 will be offered in shades of blue, green, grey, orange, pink, and silver, which match the color offerings of Canon's newly announced photo printer, the Selphy CP780.

Also announced is the PowerShot D10, Canon's first waterproof camera. Waterproof up to 33 feet, it will be freezeproof up to 14 degrees Fahrenheit and shockproof up to 4-foot drops as well. The D10 will come with a removable faceplate, with different-colored faceplates offered. Other accessories will include straps and specialized straps for mountain climbing. The camera features 12-megapixel captures, a 3x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, and will list for $329.99 in early May.

The three least-expensive cameras announced were updates to Canon's A-Series camera line, which are powered by AA batteries. Two of these cameras, the A2100 ($249.95) and the A1100 ($199), will offer optical image stabilization. The A2100 has a 3-inch LCD, a 6x optical zoom, performs 12-megapixel captures, and will be available in early April. The 12-megapixel A1100, on the other hand, sports a smaller, 2-inch LCD and a 4x optical zoom. Look for it this March.

The last updated A-Series camera, the 10-megapixel A480 ($129.99, March), will offer a 2.5-inch LCD screen.

Italian Friends and their food...

My favorite type food hands down, is Italian. Over this past weekend I was lucky enough to have a friend cook his italian specialties and share them with me so I wanted to share with you... By the way, I rarely cook meals from scratch so I helped make the ravioli by hand. This new experience made me realize I should never take the frozen bags for granted (a lot of work goes in to making those little bites of heaven!)

One night our friend Laura came over for a visit so I had the chance catch her cute expressions while we waited for dinner to be ready.

I used the Canon 20mm 1.8(see... now I'm hooked on that lens!) and no flash. Lightroom for editing.

20mm for 20 Days - Mission Complete!

So I've done it! I didn't change my lens for over three weeks and I'm completely satisfied with the results. In fact, I WILL upgrade to a faster wide angle lens and continue to experiment with it.

The weather in Charlotte has been amazing and as I begin to focus on my work in this new city, I look forward to exploring locations to photograph new clients. My next goal is to "Show and Share Charlotte" a peek at what I've found in my new city!

20mm for 20 Days - Day #17...

Yes it's been over two weeks since I last Blogged and knowing that, I must admit it may be a while before I get in a routine of blogging and posting photos. I've been trying to settle in to my new home and city however, like with many things in life, unexpected obstacles sometimes appear and they have to be dealt with immmediately, this is what I'm faced with right now. So, without boring readers/viewers with my life complications, I'll just give an update in my world of photography...

This week the WPPI conference is being held in Las Vegas, I should be there, but I didn't plan in advance and now I feel like I've missed my review before a final exam. On the bright side, I did learn that the women from "Love Affair" are hosting another conference this summer so I will make up for my absence at WPPI with a week of a "Love Affair". Okay, I just had to get that off my mind!

Finally, the 20mm for 20 Days Experience: I've truly enjoyed using only this lens and "forcing" myself use it and learn what I like about it. Over the past few weeks, between packing, unpacking, traveling, etc., I've had the opportunity to meet new people, hang out and say goodbye (for now)to close friends and spend time with family. All of these occasions have given me the chance to experiment and play around. So here is some of what I've captured, enjoy!

20mm for 20 Days - Day #5

The moving process is ALWAYS a huge hassle and this time it has been the worse move I've ever experienced. The movers packed my computer and some electronics I need (and that's just a small tip of "accidents" I've encountered with this first half of the move). I can't wait to see what happens on the other end... I'll share the entire story when I get my computer back!

For now, I'm still using the 20mm and getting some fun shots (sorry I can't share them yet). I thought for a few minutes my camera had been packed in the truck and I had a "mini stroke" then quickly found I had hidden it in the food pantry, away from boxes.

The good news is, I've have great friends helping me in various ways and I will never be able to repay them for their generousity! I'm a lucky girl...

20mm for 20 Days - Day #1

Over the past several weeks I've been reading and talking to my photographer friends about several different aspects of photography and the business. However, the most eye opening topic has been on the use of wide angles lenses. I usually only pull out my 20mm when I'm trying to fit a bridal party in a small space or for group shots. But in a weird sequence of events only days apart, two separate photographer friends of mine; Carmen Nauseef and Stevan Talevski from different parts of the country shared with me their love and comfort in shooting "wide" and I was surprised. Then, I saw the images they captured and I realized, I'm missing out on something so simple and fun! Why haven't I used that lens more? I could give several reasons why I think I haven't used it but honestly, I just simply DIDN'T...

In light of this, I've decided to challenge myself. I'm going to use my 20mm 1.8 lens exclusively for the next 20 days to see what I come up with. If I like the results, I'll upgrade to a wide 1.2. Unfortunately, I don't have any crazy or fun shoots coming up so I'll have to share photos from my upcoming move to Charlotte. So, if several days go by before you see a post, you'll know it's because of the packing and unpacking and overall transition I'm going thru. You may also notice, colors in the images below may vary (I've been trying new effects in the editing process). I also noticed I have to chill out on "tilting" and I don't ALWAYS need to get headshots. What's my deal with headshots recently???

Today was the THIRD snow day in a row here in Springboro, Ohio so lots of kids were outside sledding, throwing snow balls and building snow families. Here are a few images I captured today between packing and shoveling snow.

I had dinner tonight with a close friend and it was the first time I'd gotten "choked up" about the upcoming move. I have been so excited to leave Dayton that I've skimmed over the fact that I've got a great network of amazing friends here. I'm truly going to miss a lot of people however, I know I'll be back to visit (andf hopefully photograph some weddings!)

Coming soon... New Blog in a New City!!!

Very soon I will be moving to Charlotte, NC and starting over in my professional and personal life!!! I'm hoping this blog will be a great venue to keep friends, family and clients updated on the entire process of starting photography in a new city as well my experiences settling in overall.

I'm truly looking forward to being close to family (it's been way too long) and meeting new people and experience everything the Carolina's have to offer... For now, I'm up to my waist in boxes and a to do list full logistical challenges I need to work out!
